Texas Hummingbirds

Each spring my father in law and I eagerly await the first hummingbirds to arrive. We can usually count on seeing the first one between March 31 and the second week in April. There are 11 different types of hummingbirds seen in the Blackland Praries Eco-region.

If you are a hummingbird fan, and have a little extra time, consider participating in Texas Hummingbird Roundup, through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/

Native plants to attract and feed hummingbirds specifically for the Blackland Prairie (North Texas, Collin County) areas.

The soil (if you can even call it that since it is almost all clay) in our area can make growing exotic plants difficult, however if you plant Texas native plants your chances of success will be much higher.
